Signage is a very important aspect for a campus. It provides branding as well as wayfinding. FIT wanted to make the face of the campus resonate on Seventh Avenue with a large sign showing when a pedestrian has crossed into the campus. These signs are a commitment to sustainability by utilizing a solar energy grid, concealed by the overhead bridge parapet, for power. A solar powered array built on the bridge connecting two academic buildings feeds power back into the grid to compensate for the energy used to power the LED signs. The solar gain is expected to far exceed usage. A “Green Roof” surrounds the dunnage.
